This earthquake was preceeded by three earthquake events in October 2019 with intensities ranging from 6.1 to 6.9. The aftermath included significant structural damages and thousands of families being affected adversely. The best course of action to combat natural disasters is preparedness.<\/p>\n\n<p>Maccaferri Philippines provided the design and technical assistance to the\u202fDepartment of <strong>Public Works and Highways<\/strong>\u202ffor the road widening and upgrade of the Digos-Makar Road, a major thoroughfare and an economic lifeline of the province.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>A Paramesh Earth Retaining Wall, reinforced with\u202fParaGrid\u202f(a high tensile strength geogrid) was constructed<\/strong>\u202fin Malalag, Davao del Sur, with a length of 837 meters and a maximum height of more than 20 meters. A Finite Element Method analysis was conducted to confirm the performance and deformation characteristic of the Paramesh wall subjected to seismic loading. The findings of such analysis were presented during the 19th\u202fAssociation of Structural Engineers of the Philippines\u202f(ASEP) International Convention in Manila.<\/p>\n\n<p>Compared to the conventional gravity type earth retaining wall, <strong>the lighter construction of the Paramesh wall coupled with its very ductile behavior under large seismic loads enabled it to withstand the four (4) consecutive earthquakes\u202fwith minor non-structural damages.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Up to this day, the Digos-Makar Paramesh wall continues to stand as a testament<strong>\u202fof Maccaferri\u2019s commitment to provide solutions for disaster risk mitigation and promote disaster resiliency of key infrastructure.<\/strong><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An earthquake resilient structure constructed for the safety and security of the people<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":11460,"featured_media":30975,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_joinchat":[],"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-29325","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.0 (Yoast SEO v27.0) -
