The initial design called for driven piles but was deemed too expensive by the owners.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>To improve the bearing capacity and reduce the differential settlement, the geotechnical engineer proposed a geogrid-reinforced foundation pad consisting of multiple layers of cross-laid MacGrid WG sandwiched within a compacted structural backfill. It has high resistance to installation damage, high water permeability, resistance to ultraviolet degradation, and to biological and chemical environments normally found in soils.
